Basic looking Pill
by busTa - 14.06.2006Hey everyone, I just made this spurr-of-the-moment. This tutorial teaches you to
make a basic looking pill. You can use it for buttons on a website or make a logo.
I don't care how you use it, it always comes out looking great.
Step 1 - The Start
Make a new document 500x500 with a transparent background.
Now, select your circle marquee tool and set it to a fixed size of 200x200 pixels.
Draw a circle.

Fill it with red

Step 2 - The Glare
Make a new layer
Now set the fixed size to 150x150. Draw another circle on top of your first one like so:

Select your gradient tool (Black to White) and draw it in the circle so
that the white is on the top.

Set the layer to screen, then merge visible.

Horray! You have a ball... Now for the fun part:
Step 3 - The First Cut
Select your vertical marquee tool and make a single line that cuts through
the center of the circle. MAKE SURE IT IS THE CENTER.

Go to Edit > Define Pattern and save it as Pill
Press Delete and then deselect it (CTRL+D).

Step 4 - Finale
Now, select with your rectangular marquee tool the right half of the pill and
only the right half. Move it a little bit apart with your Arrow Tool,
then deselect (CTRL+D). Bring the unfinished pill back into the center.

Make a new layer.
Select the unmade area inside the 2 parts of the outer pill like so:

Use your fill tool and set it to "Pattern". Select your Pill pattern you
saved before and fill it. Make any adjustments needed and then merge visible.

My final result:
